USAO Upsets No. 6 Baker in Season Opener
BALDWIN CITY, Kansas – The No. 6 ranked Baker University women’s Soccer team began the 2017 campaign with a 2-1 loss against the University of Science and Arts Oklahoma inside historic Liston Stadium, as the Drovers spoiled new head coach Mark Sheldon’s first game as Baker head coach.
The game was a battle on the defensive side of the ball, as both teams went into halftime scoreless.
Baker’s Megan Johnson broke the tie in the 63rd minute with a goal, then 14 minutes later the Drover’s answered with a goal of its own by Jordan Cleveland to tie the game 1-1.
The game headed into sudden death overtime and eight minutes into the period, a Baker foul inside the box gave USAO’s Cristina Ramos a shot to win the game with a PK.
She was able to execute on the kick, giving the Drover’s the 2-1 win over the Cats, as she snuck the ball past keeper Rachel Hunt.
The Drover’s had a total of five shots on goal, and Baker senior keeper Rachel Hunt recorded three saves on the night.
The ‘Cats took 10 shots on the day with seven on goal, Kady Dieringer led the way with three shots.
The ‘Cats will next travel to Ottawa, Kansas to take on the No. 15 ranked Ottawa University Braves on Tuesday, Aug. 29 at 5:00 p.m.
