No. 2 Baker Hosts Graceland on Homecoming

 

BALDWIN CITY, Kansas The No. 2 ranked Baker University football team hosts Graceland this Saturday, for Baker’s annual Homecoming game inside Liston Stadium at 1 p.m.

 

The weekend begins on Friday, Sept. 15, as BU hosts its annual Hall of Fame Induction and Student-Athlete recognition Banquet.

 

Four former Wildcats will be inducted into the Hall of Fame on Friday including Juan Price ’94 (Baseball), Leroy Brown III ’94 (Football), Kelly Wolverton ’03 (Men’s Soccer) and Tanner Purdum ’07 (Football). For more information regarding the event, please click here.

 

The Wildcats enter the contest 3-0 and have started off the season 3-0 in four-straight seasons. Baker has also won 20-straight games against opponents from the Heart of America Athletic Conference and has a nine-game winning streak against Graceland.

 

BU ranks No. 3 in the NAIA in total passing yards with 1,109 and has scored the third most points in the country through three games with 146, averaging 48.6 points per game.

 

The Wildcats rushing attack is also one of the top in the country, as JD Woods leads the nation in rushing with 424 yards.

 

His 97-yard TD run against Grand View in week two was also a Baker record for longest touchdown run.

 

The Yellowjackets feature some weapons of their own on offense, as Caleb Thomas leads the NAIA in total receptions with 48, averaging 16 catches per game.

 

Quarterback Preston Compton is No. 5 in the NAIA in passing yards with 970. Graceland comes into Liston Stadium, 0-3, with three losses to Heart South teams including a 48-25 loss to MNU, 44-19 loss to Avila and 45-13 loss at Missouri Valley.

 

Baker’s quarterback Logan Brettell continues to shine for Baker, as the returning NAIA National Player of the Year is 57-of-93 for 924 yards and eight touchdown passes this season.

 

Indie Allen leads the ‘Cats in tackles with 31 and is tied for the team lead in tackles for loss with four with teammate Landon Decker.
