No. 17 Men’s Soccer Defeats Ottawa, 6-2
BALDWIN CITY, Kansas – The No. 17 ranked Baker University men’s soccer team defeated Ottawa University, 6-2, on Tuesday evening, moving to 2-0 on the year.
The six goals scored are the most by the Wildcats since, September 26, 2015, when they defeated Culver-Stockton, 7-3, in Canton, Missouri.
Reigning Heart Defensive Player of the Week Gonnie Ben-Tal had two goals on the night in the 55th and 63rd minute, while Blake Levine had a big night by recording three assists.
Levine’s first came in the 31st minute on a goal by Joe Houlihan, his next came on Ben-Tal’s goal in the 63rd minute and the last came in the 71st minute on Jordan Gomez-Nix’s first goal of 2017.
Austin Halsey scored the ‘Cats first goal of the game in the 13th minute with the assist coming from Steeve Pouna and Cory Mitchell provided Baker with the sixth goal of the night in the 84th minute. Andres Cooper also had an assist, on Ben-Tal’s goal in the 55th minute.
The Wildcats attempted 20 shots overall with 14 on goal, while Ottawa took 11 shots. Nick Riggle spent all 90 minutes in goal for Baker and recorded three saves, while allowing two goals. 23 different ‘Cats played in the game.
Baker will next take on No. 6 ranked Oklahoma Wesleyan on Saturday, Sept. 2 at 7:30 p.m. inside Liston Stadium, then faces No. 4 University of Northwestern Ohio on Sept. 4 at 3:30 p.m.
