No. 6 Baker Shuts Out No. 20 Benedictine, 1-0
BALDWIN CITY, Kansas – The No. 6 ranked Baker University men’s soccer team continued its winning streak on Wednesday night as they won its seventh-straight match and fifth-straight Heart of America Athletic Conference match in a 1-0 win against No. 20 ranked Benedictine inside Liston Stadium.
Baker is now 9-1-1 overall and 5-0 in Heart of America Athletic Conference action, while Benedictine falls to 8-3-1 and 3-3 in the Heart.
Steeve Pouna scored the lone goal of the night in the 20th minute when senior Blake Levine placed a perfect ball off of a corner kick and Pouna then headed it home past keeper Caleb Jenkins.
The goal is the fourth of the season for Pouna and 16th of his career in three seasons. Levine now has 10 assists in 11 matches for Baker and has 16 in his four-year career.
Benedictine outshot Baker 11-9 and Joseph Houlihan along with Pouna each led the team in shots with two apiece.
BC’s Leonardo Armando led all players with three shots. Alberto Ciroi had another solid outing with five saves for the ‘Cats. It also marked his seventh shut out of the year.
Baker hits the road this Saturday, Oct. 7 to take on Culver-Stockton College at 7:30 p.m. in Canton, Missouri.
