No. 2 Baker Looks to Stay Undefeated Against Avila


BALDWIN CITY, Kansas – The No. 2 ranked Baker University football team travels to Kansas City, Missouri this Saturday to take on Avila University at 1 p.m.


The Wildcats will face Avila for the 16th time in the series, and is a perfect 15-0 all-time against the Eagles.


BU has opened up the 2017 season perfect with a 7-0 record and 1-0 mark in the Heart Southern Division. Since the Heart expanded to a Northern and Southern Division, Baker is 11-0 in the Heart South.


The ‘Cats have also won 24-straight games against a Heart of America Athletic Conference opponent dating back to 2015.


Avila is 2-5 this season and opened up Heart South play with a 35-14 loss at Missouri Valley last Saturday.


The Eagles two wins this season came on Sept. 2 when they defeated Graceland on the road, 44-19, and they defeated Culver-Stockton, 31-23, at home on Sept. 23.


The Wildcat offense continues to stifle opposing defenses, as the ‘Cats feature the No. 3 ranked passing offense with 2,488 passing yards and the No. 4 scoring offense at 52.7 points per game.


Nate McLaurin has been one of the top defensive backs in the NAIA this season, with his two interceptions and averaged two passes defended per game, which ranks No. 5 in the nation.


Indie Allen is No. 6 in the NAIA in tackles per game at 11.1 and Josh Kock is No. 11 in the NAIA in sacks with six.


JD Woods’ 84 points scoring on touchdowns ranks No. 4 in the NAIA and Clarence Clark’s total points scored with 107 in top in the country.


Quarterback Logan Brettell ranks No. 5 in the country in passing yards with 2,242 and has 23 touchdown passes with a passing percentage of .627.
