Brettell, McLaurin Earn Heart Football Player of the Week Honors


BALDWIN CITY, Kansas – Baker University senior quarterback Logan Brettell and junior defensive back Nate McLaurin earned this week’s Heart of America Athletic Conference Offensive and Defensive Player of the Week awards respectively announced on Monday, after leading No. 2 Baker over No. 14 Benedictine this past Saturday, 44-37, in the NAIA Game of the Week.


This is the second Player of the Week award for Brettell in 2017, the other came on Sept. 11, while this is the first for McLaurin.


The Wildcats won its 22nd-straight game against a Heart of America Athletic Conference team in the victory on Saturday and Brettell went 21-of-38 for 362 yards and five touchdown passes, including a TD pass with 50-seconds remaining to Tywonn Moss to seal the win over the Ravens.


He now has 8,072 career passing yards, just 206 yards shy of the Baker school record held by Mack Brown.


McLaurin had 11 total tackles in the win over No. 14 BC and picked off Raven quarterback Schaefer Schuetz’ final pass of the game for McLaurin’s second interception on the year, he also recovered a fumble in the victory.


The Wildcats return home this Saturday, September 30 to face (RV) Peru State at 1 p.m. inside Liston Stadium.
